CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Former University of Virginia student Elizabeth Haysom was deported to Canada after being released from U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) custody.

Haysom was convicted of being an accessory before the fact in the 1985 murders of her parents in Bedford County.

Haysom's ex-boyfriend, Jens Soering, was convicted of committing the murders. He was deported to Germany in December.

Both were paroled in November, but Haysom was detained by ICE for two months.

She arrived in Canada on Wednesday, according to a statement from ICE.

The case has remained in the headlines in recent years as Soering fought for a pardon and claims he gave a false confession in the case.

New DNA evidence suggests two men were at the scene of the crime, but they have never been identified.

Both Haysom and Soering served more than 30 years in prison for the murders.

This is a developing story.
