CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- While Dracula is typically known for having a taste for blood, the world's most famous vampire made an appearance at a blood drive at John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday.

Known by his screen name Zandor Vorkov, Raphael Peter Engel played Count Dracula in the 1971 film "Dracula vs. Frankenstein." He came to JPJ Arena in his cape and a vampire mask to make a donation.

He recorded a public service announcement about the importance of blood donations earlier this year to be played before screenings of the film.

"There's this pandemic and people need blood, so who better than the character of Dracula to talk to people about giving blood," Engel said. "There's an opportunity to use this to encourage people to give blood with this humorous take."

While he was unable to donate on Tuesday due to low iron levels, he says he will try again soon.

His film "Dracula vs. Frankenstein" and the PSA, The Vampire's Oath of Blood, will be screened at The Family Drive-In in Stephen's City, Virginia on July 1 and 2.
