CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Bronco Mendenhall ended practice Thursday with one more surprise handing walk-ons Coen King and Hayden Mitchell scholarships.

King and Mitchell were, in typical scholarship hand out fashion, surprised in front of the team after practice and received a well-deserved celebration from their teammates.

Both players were also among the first to earn their jersey numbers earlier in fall camp, with King picking No. 9 and Mitchell No. 18.

King, a sophomore defensive back from Culpeper, is going into his third season with UVA after seeing game time on special teams in his first couple seasons. King only played one season of high school football at Eastern View, while also playing basketball and competing in both the long and high jump.

Mitchell, a junior from Richmond, saw most of his action on special teams his first two seasons. Mitchell caught his first two careers passes in UVA's home opener against William & Mary last season, finishing with two catches for 49 yards on the day. The St. Christopher's alum also caught one pass for eight yards in the ACC Championship against Clemson.

This offseason Mitchell has also stepped up as a key leader in the wide receiver room for the Wahoos with teammates and coaches bringing his name up multiple times for his leadership in a young receiver group.
