CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- MacArthur “Genius” and Princeton sociologist Matthew Desmond, who wrote Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City, will be speaking at the Virginia Festival of the Book virtually, according to a news release.

The virtual event is free and will be on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

Desmond will talk with Kevin McDonald, the University of Virginia's vice president for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Partnerships, about his book and work on housing access and affordability. He will also discuss income and housing insecurity across the country.
