CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Sheetz along University Avenue is shutting down.

The Corner location of the family-owned convenience store chain will be closing in June, according to a Sheetz spokesperson.

It opened in September of 2017 after being approved by the Charlottesville Board of Architectural Review the previous January.

The announcement follows a string of similar closures by businesses at the same location, including Eddy's Tavern.

Meanwhile, a new Sheetz location is currently in the works along Airport Road.

Full statement by Nick Ruffner, PR Manager for Sheetz below:

After a great deal of consideration, Sheetz has decided to permanently close its store location along University Avenue in Charlottesville, VA.  We anticipate a June closure date and apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers.  Sheetz is incredibly appreciative of our employees and customers in Charlottesville. This decision was not made lightly and while we are disappointed to announce this closure, we remain committed to the community and all employees will be offered jobs at our locations in the area.  That includes a new store location in Charlottesville, along Airport Road, which is currently in the early stages of development.  That store will include our full offer of convenience items, food and fuel.

There has not been an announcement about what will be filling its place.
