ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The drought monitors were updated earlier this week, and parts of Central Virginia have been updated to moderate drought (D1).

The counties in moderate drought are Albemarle, Buckingham, Nelson, Amherst, and Appomattox.

Besides land and crops, a noticeable place where the signs of drought can be seen are the James and the Rivanna rivers. The water in the rivers is starting to go down.

"We are right in about three feet," said Chris Wilkes, the owner and manager of James River Runners. "Our ideal levels are 3.2 to 4.2 using the Scottsville gauge. Anything below 3.2, it definitely starts dragging bottom. We can definitely get a few more inches of water."

With widespread rain not in the forecast, the area will just have to wait and see if conditions worsen.
