ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- One driver caught an Albemarle County fatal car crash on video last week.

The crash happened around 4 p.m.  Aug. 11 on Stony Point Road between Stony Point Pass and Turkey Sag Road.

A driver who was was a few cars behind the crash caught this video on their dashcam.

Police say the passenger of the vehicle, 33-year-old Austen Jones, died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, 43-year-old Brian Payne, is in critical condition at the University of Virginia Hospital.

Payne’s son, Aaron Payne, says the family is calling on the community for help. He says they've created a GoFundMe to assist both families.

"All things considering, we're doing alright. It's pretty tough right now dealing with this. I've never seen my dad like this. Seeing him like this is something I've never seen before, so I'm just trying to process all of this right now," Aaron said.

He says donations will go toward his father's medical bills and Jones' family.

The Albemarle County Police Department says this is still an ongoing investigation but officials hope to have a cause within the next two weeks.

This fatal car crash is the fifth the county has seen in 2021.
