CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- One person has died following a car crash in the 900 block of Fifth Street SW on Saturday night.

It happened a little past 10 p.m. Both sides of the road were closed off and first responders remained at the scene for several hours.

The Charlottesville Police Department said the crash involved two SUVs.

An adult male driver was taken to the University of Virginia Hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now in stable condition. Another occupant of that vehicle, an adult female of Richmond, died at the scene.

A driver of the second vehicle didn't need treatment.

CPD is working with the traffic unit to investigate the crash. There are currently no charges.
