CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- University of Virginia President Jim Ryan raised a lot of money to help support student veterans.

For this year's t-shirt campaign ahead of his participation in the Boston Marathon, he raised about $26,000.

Another $7,000 was raised through the virtual option allowing people to run with Ryan.

The total is still being tallied, but with more than $30,000 counted so far, this has been the most successful fundraiser Ryan has had with his running in the marathon.

The money will be going toward programs and events at the UVA Student Veteran Center.

While running in Boston, Ryan was wearing a shirt with the names of veterans on it.
