CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia Health System held its weekly COVID briefing on Thursday, saying that Albemarle County remains at a medium level for community transmission of the virus.

There are currently 32 patients at the hospital, 26 of whom are in acute care and six are in ICU.

From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, the UVA Children’s Hospital will be holding a vaccination clinic for children under the age of five.

Doctors are working to reassure parents that the vaccine is safe for their kids.

“If you take a look at the clinical studies, the rate of side effects of these vaccines in children was very low,” said Dr. Costi Sifri, the hospital’s director of hospital epidemiology.

There will also be a clinic Monday at the Church of the Incarnation from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Doctors say there has been a lot of interest in the vaccine from local parents, so they are anticipating being busy at both clinics.
