CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Two fraternities are being removed from the University of Virginia Grounds.

The university has terminated the Fraternal Organization Agreements for Kappa Alpha and Phi Gamma Delta.

This comes after both fraternities were investigated for hazing activities.

Examples of activities that have been determined to be hazing included requiring new members to carry specific items at all times and hitting new members with coat hangers.

UVA says the national organizations of these chapters can petition to re-colonize the university after four years.

Regarding the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, five students were also referred to the University Judiciary Committee.
