ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- An Albemarle County woman is facing a murder charge in connection with a shooting that occurred Tuesday morning.

According to the Albemarle County Police Department, police officers and crews from the Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue responded to a domestic disturbance report on the 2100 block of Stony Point Road before 8:30 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a person who was dead from a gunshot wound.

Police say 38-year-old Shawna Marie Natalie Murphy has been charged with second-degree murder and use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

She is being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail pending a hearing.

This investigation is ongoing, and officials say area residents will see a heavy police presence in the area for the remainder of the day.

People are urged to avoid the area.

The victim’s identity will not be released until the next of kin can be notified.
