ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Work on a diverging diamond interchange is almost done, and drivers will soon see a change in the traffic pattern.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports traffic will be switched to the final configuration at the interchange of Richmond Road and Interstate 64 during the weekend of Nov. 12 and 13.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Nov. 12, Richmond Road under the interstate overpasses will be closed, so that crews can complete pavement striping and traffic signal work.

During that time, drivers will follow some detours.

Westbound drivers on Richmond Road will take 64 eastbound to Exit 129 to get back onto Route 250.

Eastbound Richmond Road drivers will take 64 westbound to Exit 121 to get back to 250.

Drivers heading east on 64 and looking to get onto westbound Richmond Road will take Exit 129, while those heading west and looking to get onto eastbound Richmond Road will use Exit 121.

VDOT says one lane of Richmond Road will reopen under the bridges by 5 a.m. on Nov. 13.

The traffic pattern shift will be completed and all lanes reopened no later than 5 a.m. on Nov. 14.

Congestion and delays are expected in the area while the traffic shift work is being completed.

VDOT says some work will continue during the overnight hours until February.
