CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Arc of the Piedmont will be hosting its ninth annual Santa Fun Run on the Downtown Mall this weekend.

It will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the aim of giving back to the community the organization serves. All proceeds from the event go to supporting the programs and services The Arc of the Piedmont provides for people in Charlottesville and surrounding communities living with developmental disabilities.

At registration, everyone will get a Santa suit to wear, so that they can be “in uniform” for the mile trek. The event is open to everyone.

"This is a way that everybody is dressed up in a Santa suit, looking the same for a good 30 minutes or so, and all including whether their brothers and sisters have a disability or do not have a disability, everybody is coming together in the city of Charlottesville not only giving back to our community but giving back to a great cause," said Bryan Harris, the Director of Development and Community Relations for The Arc.

Saturday’s event will also include an art tent with pieces created by members of The Arc.

This is the first time artwork will be available for sale at the Fun Run since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arc members have been working hard to create unique pieces to be sold, such as handmade cards, paintings and more.

Proceeds from the event go to support The Arc’s efforts to better the lives of adults with disabilities.
