CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The annual Toy Lift was held in several locations on Friday, aiming to collect toys for children around the area.

While about 10,000 have been collected, there is a specific type of toy organizers say is still needed: stuffed animals.

Toy Lift gives every child it helps a stuffed animal, but it only received a few hundred this year. It needs about 4,000.

Hundreds of volunteers were out all day on Friday helping to collect donations, including some who were helped by Toy Lift when they were young.

“Imagine the kids when you’re eight, not having a Christmas except for Toy Lift,” said Dave Fafara, the president of Toy Lift Charities. “And then coming back 20 years later and volunteering. That’s the cool part.”

Toy Lift now needs volunteers to help pack up donations to be given to families. This will take place on Saturday.

People can also still donate online here.
