CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Blue Ridge Fencing Center is hosting its annual spring tournament on Saturday, and each player's entrance fee is benefiting Green Dogs Unleashed.

Green Dogs Unleashed is committed to rescuing animals in need, rehabilitating them, professionally training them to become therapy dogs, and then placing them in homes to give back to the community.

This tournament specifically is giving younger fencers the chance to compete in a friendly environment, while making a difference for the nonprofit.

"As a nonprofit ourselves, one of things we look towards doing is helping other smaller nonprofits," said Nathaniel Sides, the head coach and executive director of Blue Ridge Fencing Center. "I've known several people who have had several interactions with Green Dogs, and have had nothing but great things to say about them, and we were just really excited about their mission and what they're doing."

At the tournament, people will be able to see some talented fencers, along with dogs from Green Dogs Unleashed.

The tournament is accepting donations for Green Dogs through Saturday. Among the items being accepted are paper towels, puppy pads, and Clorox wipes.

Donations can be dropped off at the fencing center's East High Street location on weekday evenings between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
