ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA calendar contest has just begun, and already has some tough competition for which adoptees will be making the calendar this year.

“It’s just a really great opportunity to support the homeless animals here at the SPCA and to also have your pet featured in our 2024 calendar,” said Emily Swecker, the director of Communications at the CASPCA.

Parents of CASPCA alumni can submit their pet’s photo for a chance to win one of 13 coveted spots on the calendar. The pet with the most votes will be featured on the cover of the 2024 calendar.

“The next six dogs and six cats will be featured in the months throughout the year, and then all of the other entries will be featured towards the end of the calendar,” added Swecker.

But this year, the SPCA is adding a little twist through one portion of the contest.

“We will have a board member or our executive interim director matching donations that come through the reserve a day portion of the contest. So, for example, if you reserve a day today, make a donation of $15, you’ll have your pet featured, but then that donation will also be matched,” said Swecker.

There’s lots of good competition in our area for that cover model, but the SPCA says this contest is a great way to see the progress these animals have made since being adopted.

“We just really enjoy seeing the SPCA alums, hearing their stories, seeing their photos, and how they’ve acclimated into their families,” added Swecker.

The contest runs now until Aug. 5, and you can find more information on voting here.
