CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Local legend Chris Long recruited some extra star power to raise money and awareness for his charity Waterboys this week.

"Charlottesville’s been tremendous. We went to Durty Nelly’s last night, I don't know if that's everybody's favorite but we sure had a great time," Super Bowl champion and Philadelphia Eagle Jason Kelce said.

Kelce was just one guest at the charity golf challenge.

"I mean I'm having fun just riding around in the golf carts, to be honest. I suck at golf. Maybe next year we'll do pickleball," three-time Super Bowl champion LeGarrette Blount said.

"I was fortunate to go on a trip with Chris and a bunch of Wounded Warriors and friends to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Over there you just see how much it means to the community, how much it means to the people when you're installing a well," Kelce said.

The goal of Waterboys is to bring clean water to a million people. Right now, they're at 550,000.

"The next push is going to be doing a lot of the same things but figuring out creative ways to do them. Case in point, starting a golf tournament. We do domestic work as well with Hometown H2O which is a newer thing we do in the last few years. Obviously, we're going to continue our work in east Africa doing solar-powered wells," Long said.

Current and former UVA athletes also came to support.

"It's kind of amazing in the economy and world we live in that you can’t get clean water. I think what they're doing is an amazing thing," UVA and NFL alum Terry Kirby said.
