WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel, and other U.S. allies was approved this weekend in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Democrats and Republicans came together after months of hard-right resistance from people like Fifth District Representative Bob Good over renewed American support for Ukraine.

Good believes Congress didn't do a good job this weekend and says if there was a motion to vacate Speaker Mike Johnson from his seat, he wouldn't support it.

"Congress let down the American people," said Good.

The $95 billion foreign aid package consists of four bills that were voted on separately and will be combined into one before being sent to the Senate. Good voted against all four.

"Borrowing $95 billion that we don't have, further exacerbating our debt situation, we've got to stop doing that at some point. We've got to stop talking about it and take action," said Good. "To add insult to injury, you have $300 million specifically designated for border personnel for Ukraine, but we haven't done anything to secure our border here in the United States."

Seventh District Representative Abigail Spanberger supports the package.

In a release, Spanberger said quote "serious lawmakers did their jobs, voted to maintain our standing in the world, and demonstrated the power and goodwill of the United States of America. In contrast, the voices calling for America's retreat from the world stage were ignored — and history will remember their weakness, if it will remember them at all."

The approval of the package was a pivotal moment for House Speaker Mike Johnson as he tries to stave off a right-wing rebellion.

"He had promised for months now that we would utilize the Democrats' insatiable desire for more resources for Ukraine, that we would utilize that to secure our border and to negotiate border security from the Senate and the White House," he said.

But, Good, who was one of the Republicans who voted to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, says he won't support a motion to vacate this time.

"It's interesting that the eight people involved in the motion to vacate, none of them are calling for that now, because we are in a different situation than we were six months ago," he said.

Instead, he says Republicans should be focused on getting former President Donald Trump re-elected, helping more conservatives get elected to the House, and making sure Republicans win the Senate.

"And then we will have a contest for Speaker in November. I think Speaker Johnson has failed us, I don't think he has a majority of Republican support, I don't think he will be elected Speaker in November. I think it would be a mistake for us to go down that road now," said Good.

Johnson stands behind his decision to bring up Ukraine aid for a vote. He called the aid "critically important" in pushing back on Russian aggression after receiving classified briefings.
