FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Two people from Orange were killed in a Wednesday morning crash in Fauquier County.

The Virginia State Police reports the crash occurred around 11:05 a.m. on James Madison Highway just south of the intersection with Beach Road.

A southbound 2006 Chevrolet Equinox ran off the right side of James Madison Highway and hit a mailbox and then a tree.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Michael A.H. Sanson, and a passenger, identified as 67-year-old Brenda M. Atkisson, both died at the scene.

Police say Atkisson was wearing a seat belt but Sanson was not.

Speed is considered a factor in this crash, which is still under investigation.
