ALBEMARLE COUNTY. Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Saturday, April 27 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and ACPD partnered with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and the DEA for an anonymous drug drop.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ACPD was outside of Martha Jefferson Hospital, their station on 5th Street, Crozet Family Medicine and Wegmans to accept any unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter medicines.

Sergeant Roger Snodgrass says this bi-yearly event has been very successful.

“For this area alone, we make up 10% of the whole state’s turnback. So last year we had 900 pounds and there were 9,000 collected,” Snodgrass said.

Saturday, ACPD collected 515 from the four locations which is more than last April's 465 pounds. The next take back day will take place in October of this year.
