CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- After recording their most wins since the 2019 season, the Cavaliers earned the No. 5 seed in the 2024 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament and will host NEC champion LIU on Friday at 3 p.m. 

The Cavaliers will make their 28th consecutive appearance in the appearance and first under head coach Sonia LaMonica who led the team to six ACC wins, matching a program best. Along with ACC wins against Boston College, Notre Dame and North Carolina, the team also recorded wins against fellow NCAA Tournament teams, James Madison, Stanford, Princeton and Richmond.

LIU, who have never faced off against the Cavaliers, clinched its first NCAA Tournament appearance Saturday after beating Scared Heart in the NEC title game. 

If the Cavaliers advance Friday, the team will host the winner of Florida/North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m.
