CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- A familiar face will be roaming the sidelines for the Charlottesville football team this coming fall.

Terrell Mulford, the school's all-time leading rusher and rushing touchdowns holder, was officially introduced as the school's next head coach on Tuesday. Mulford has spent the last 17 years on the football staff serving a variety of roles including five years as the head coach of the JV team.

"I'm very excited about being the guy now," Mulford said. "Work with these individuals to make sure that they are getting to the goals and building confidence heading into the season."

Mulford will take over a program that struggled in 2023, going winless through 10 games, but he isn't necessarily focused on dwelling on the past. He hopes to make things better in the future.

"My biggest goal is to focus on the future. Not really think about too much about what happened in the past here. Get the kids looking forward and not dwelling on the past because you can't really focus on the things in the past because you can't change anything. My biggest message to the individuals that are here are that we are focusing on the future and what we want our program to look like."
