ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Fifth District Representative Bob Good was in Albemarle County Thursday evening to speak with community members on how he is preparing for the June primary against John McGuire and his planned path for re-election.

Joined by Texas Representative Chip Roy and Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, Good thinks the primary should go in his favor.

“We would win overwhelmingly if the election was held today, the people are behind us,” Good said.

With the Virginia primary only 40 days away, Good says that McGuire's campaign lacks integrity.

“My opponent has no integrity; he has unchecked ambition. He will lie, cheat or steal to try to win an election. So we are concerned that it will have some impact of course. But we trust the people of the 5th District to get it right,” Good said.

Good says his focus in office has been and will continue to be border control.

“The No. 1 issue in the country is the border. Every poll indicates that, and I have been one of the leaders fighting for border security,” Good says.

Thursday’s event was to rally the people in Charlottesville and Albemarle County and gain support in his district by asking the crowd of over 100 people to donate either time and funds to his campaign. He also preached taking advantage of Virginia's early voting opportunity.

“We want to get our folks out voting early. We are not like the Democrats where we want them to vote often, just one time,” Good said.
