The Falcon Club hosted its annual football year end banquet, honoring all local high school football teams. Former Virginia and Detroit Lions wide receiver Herman Moore was the keynote speaker.
Moore spoke candidly about not having any scholarship offers after his senior year of high school, but because of an interception he pulled down on the final play of his senior year game against Albemarle, earned attention by a Virginia scout, who was watching his son in the game.
Moore talked about being prepared and taking advantage of your opportunities.
"I was always wanting to come back and make sure there's some type of contribution to some of the amateur athletes and understanding, as I spoke tonight, its about the journey. Being able to tell them about what it takes to become, not just a professional athlete but becoming a quality person. There's a lot of lessons that are being learned that perhaps they're not aware of that as long as they apply those to every day situations, they'll be fine."
The Falcon Club banquet is in the 64th year presenting year-end awards.
