CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- The 18th Annual Westhaven Community Day was held on Saturday in Charlottesville. The event brings together local organizations, law enforcement, and residents, to enjoy a day in the sun.

"We just want people to have a good time," said Wendy Cooper, Volunteer Coordinator for Westhaven Community Day.

The event featured a live DJ, games, a moon bounce, and tables for various organizations in the area.

One of the main sponsors of the event is the Charlottesville Police Department. Volunteers at the event said they really appreciate the police taking an interest in an event like this.

"Their presence is needed. The mere fact that they are here at a booth helps to foster that relationship and trust factor," said Cooper. "The fact that they are here to help is awesome."

The event also featured free health screenings for children going back to school.

The event lasted until 6 p.m.
