Sixth Annual Community Day a success for local church

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWPLEX) -- Every Sunday, Charlottesville's Ebenezer Baptist Church opens its doors for worship services.

This Sunday, the sermon was focused on community ties, as part of the Annual Community Day.

Every year, Ebenezer Baptist Church holds a community day event in an effort to deepen the relationships between residents, community leaders and public officials.

The day also acts as a way to connect residents to services they might not know about in the community.

Organizers say it's vital to come together to continue to build a close-knit community, especially in light of recent events throughout the nation.

"Well this is a trying time," said Ebenezer Baptist Church member and organizer Kim Smith. "We as people need to become strong and stand up for what's right, to cultivate and to grow a meaningful experience."

The Community Day is in its sixth year and the church also provided free food, entertainment for the kids and a back-to-school bash fundraiser.
