Albemarle Police participate in Putt-Putt with the Police

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- For the fourth straight year, the Albemarle Police Foundation held Putt-Putt with the Police on Wednesday.

Children from all over Albemarle County got to play mini-golf with police officers at Putt-Putt Fun Center on Rio Road.

Albemarle Police Chief Ron Lantz said this year's event saw the largest turnout ever.

Lantz said officers love the event so much that he has had to tell some officers not to participate, but the officers wanting to be involved is why the event has become so popular.

"Events like this are that are taking place really mean a lot to our community," he said. "Our officers are outward facing and they are not just seeing the kids the on their worst day, they are seeing them on the good day. The officers are into it and they enjoy getting to interact with the community."

The foundation also presented a plaque to the Wood family to honor L.F. Wood, the founder of the Putt-Putt Fun Center, who passed away in October.
