CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Junior League of Charlottesville will be hosting an annual event that gets kids cooking on Saturday.

It's the 15th annual Kids in the Kitchen, which will be held at the Cherry Avenue Boys and Girls Club on Cherry Avenue.

Kids in the Kitchen is a national event supported by Junior Leagues International, Inc. and the member leagues that aims to promote child health and wellness.

It works to empower children and youth to make healthy lifestyle choices to prevent obesity and the health risks that come with it.

During the event, the club will be turned into a hands-on health and fitness fair where children and their families can learn about healthy snacks, cooking tips, fitness and crafts.

Families wishing to continue the kid-friendly and healthy meal preparation at home can also click on the link in the Related Links box for recipes and more.

The event, which is free and open to kids of all ages and their families, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information on this event, click on the second link in the Related Links box.
