CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A community effort to build a playground that is accessible to people of all abilities now has a partner in the Arc of the Piedmont.
According to a release, the Arc of the Piedmont will serve as the fiduciary home of Bennett's Village, granting it nonprofit status, which gives it access to grants and funding to which it might not otherwise have had access.
There will be a meeting on May 29 at 6 p.m. at the Homewood Suites on India Road.
The Arc is a national network of nonprofit organizations that want to ensure people with developmental disabilities can life live to the fullest.
Bennett's village is a fundraising team for the family and friends of Bennett McClurken-Gibney, who are working to raise awareness about Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Bennett, who was diagnosed with SMA shortly after his first birthday, died within months of his sixth birthday.
He had spent time going to the ARC Park in Richmond, which is the nearest all abilities playground.
Bennett's Village aims to build a similar facility in the Charlottesville area.
