ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The local animal shelter is hitting the road to help people of the community get their pets the care they need.

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is going to be at the Southwood Community Center on Saturday for a mobile clinic.

The Compassionate Care-A-Van will be there from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., offering pet health care services to people who qualify for public assistance.

Proof of public assistance is required to participate in the clinic, which can include an EBT card, proof of disability, Medicaid, SNAP, unemployment or WIC.

There is a $15 fee for a basic wellness exam, and other services are available.

These include getting a pet microchipped for $15, rabies vaccinations for $5, nail trim for $10 or ear mite treatment for $25.

For dogs, available treatments include heartworm testing for $10, DAPP vaccine for $5, Kennel Cough vaccine for $5, and flea/tick preventative application for $12.

For cats, the FVRCP vaccine will cost $5, FELV/FIV testing costs $15, Advantage Multi Application is $15 and Stongid Dewormer costs $5.

"The CASPCA is proud to offer affordable wellness exams and high-quality medical care to animals in our community," said CASPCA Executive Director Angie Gunter. "These clinics are a pillar in the community for helping keep animals with their owners and out of the shelter. Taking these clinics mobile is a great way to help loving pet owners who may have limited access to transportation."

No appointments are needed, but dogs do need to be on leash and cats need to arrive in carriers.

There is limited availability, so people are asked to arrive early.
