ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Albemarle Airport had several delayed and canceled flights Wednesday due to the snow and sleet.

As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, there were six canceled flights and several others delayed.

Stewart Key, public information officer of CHO, said snow crews were out early plowing the runways and deicing planes for take off.

Key said it is important that passengers stay up to date with their flight's status on days with wintry weather.

"We recommend that our passengers check our website. Go to gocho.com and just make sure that you're checking with your flight, checking with your airline and make sure that you have plenty of time," he said.

Key said the biggest factor airlines look for when deciding to delay or cancel is if pilots have good visibility.
