Charlottesville City Schools dismiss students early

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Officials from Charlottesville City Schools decided to dismiss students early from class Friday morning because of a severe weather threat.

Students boarded buses in front of Clark Elementary School as part of the school division's dismissal plan.

Jim Henderson, associate superintendent of Charlottesville City Schools, said they wanted to send students home early to a safe place before the severe weather entered the area.

"In order to put our kids first and create a safe situation for them, we are dismissing early to get them out of their buildings, into homes and into a safe place in their homes, if there are damaging winds," he said.

Henderson also suggested that parents should make a safety plan at home.
