Charlottesville Police arrest suspect in 2014 assault

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- A man from Troy has been found guilty of an assault on the UVA Corner in 2014.

The Charlottesville Police Department arrested 26-year-old Aaron Ceballo after naming him as the suspect.

According to police, back in July of 2014 a man was assaulted on Wertland Street behind the UVA Corner around 1:45 a.m. Police say the man was hit over the head with an object.

The man was taken to the UVA Medical Center where he was treated for his head injuries.

Based on the man's description of who attacked him, police were able to identify and name Ceballo as the suspect.

Ceballo was located in New York in 2016 and extradited back to Charlottesville.

Ceballo was initially charged with malicious wounding but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor assault on Aug. 11, 2016. He was given a suspended sentence.
