Charlottesville teacher arrested on child porn charge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- A Charlottesville High School teacher has been arrested on a charge involving child pornography.

The Charlottesville Police Department arrested 56-year-old Richard "Rick" Alan Wellbeloved-Stone this week.

On July 19, Charlottesville investigators got information the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations and a joint investigation was opened.

Wellbeloved-Stone's residence on Cottonwood Road was searched on July 25 by members of CPD and HSI.

The Charlottesville City Schools division says he has been suspended following his arrest.

Wellbeloved-Stone has worked for the school division as an environmental sciences teacher since 2002.

Charlottesville Superintendent Rosa Atkins sent a message to parents about Well-beloved-Stone's arrest and suspension.

"This is a troubling announcement," she wrote. "We are saddened for all involved, but will focus our attention on caring for our school community."

Wellbeloved-Stone is being held without bond on a charge of child porn possession at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say no further information will be released at this time.
