CROZET, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Chris Long Foundation held its first ever Wine, Wheels, Wells and Wonder event Saturday at King Family Vineyard.
The afternoon included wine, food trucks and music as well as a silent auction with items ranging from Chris Long's dog mask to Long taking your kid to school for a day. All the proceeds from the event went to several programs started by Long such as Waterboys, which works to provide safe drinking water in rural East African communities.
"It's really taken a village to do this, but we're at 35 wells and about 125,000 people served," Long said, who works with other NFL players and veterans on the project.
The former Virginia Cavalier and St. Anne's Belfield product said the goal was to raise just more than $20,000 by the end of the event, but they surpassed that amount before he could finish speaking, in another example, Long says, of the support he receives from his home community.
"Everything I do or I'm able to accomplish starts here and it starts with people that are supportive," Long said. "So we couldn't do any of this without the support of Charlottesville and the good people who live here."
