CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- University of Virginia alumnus and NFL football star Chris Long announced that he's retiring on Twitter on Saturday night.
Long posted this statement on Twitter:
"Cheers. Been a hell of a journey. Eleven years and I can honestly say I put my soul into every minute of it. Highs and lows. I’ve seen them both and I appreciate the perspective. Gratitude and love to those who lifted me up."
The football star is known for his work on the field with the Philadelphia Eagles and in the community.
Long earned the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award for his community service work.
He's also known for his Waterboy's Initiative, which aims to help the clean water crisis in Africa.
