City preschoolers get free rides and pizza at McIntire Park

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- At Mcintire Park, some lucky preschoolers got the chance to hit the rides at the Dogwood Festival carnival.

About 200 preschool-aged, inner-city kids enjoyed free kiddie rides.

This is the tenth year the little ones have had the chance to have the carnival all to themselves.

The four and five years old also got to eat pizza, and the city schools division donated buses for the event just as the carnival donated the time for the children to enjoy the rides.

Jenny Garret, a board member for the Dogwood Festival, says it's the best part of her job.

"We give them a chance to come to ride all the rides that are age appropriate and that's just perfect for us," Garrett said.

She also says the kids liked the merry-go-round the best.
