Community gathers for Charlottesville Family Fun Day

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Kids and adults went to Forest Hills Park for the third annual Charlottesville Family Fun Day on Saturday.

Divine Women of Destiny organized the event.

Charlottesville Fire and Police departments and the Albemarle County Police Department were at the event playing with the children.

Cynthia Murray, the founder of Divine Women of Destiny, said her love for the community is what inspired her to put the event together.

"As a native of Charlottesville, I have just loved the Charlottesville, Albemarle community," said Murray. "It inspired me to bring neighbors together and to let people know that we have more in common than we have in our differences."

She said the community has loved the event each year, which is why she continues to put it together.

"They come out strong every year and they want us to keep on doing Charlottesville Family Fun Day," Murray said.

She hopes this event pushes the community to embrace what makes people different.

"It's our wish that this event would bring people together as community and help neighbors meet one another and celebrate our differences as well as the things we have in common," Murray said.

The organization plans on doing the event again next summer.
