Cville Gives grants $10,000 to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Cville Gives gave over $10,000 to the Blue Ridge Food Bank at the Common House on Monday to help kick off the Tom Tom Festival.

The grant theme this year was food insecurity. Bread and Roses, Emergency Food Network, International Rescue Committee, and Meals on Wheels also won at least $2,000 each thanks to donations given during the event.

The founder of Cville Gives, Michael Buczynski, said food insecurity is a big issue in Charlottesville.

"Food insecurity is defined by the lack of abundant nutritious food that's available to you," he said. "Eighteen percent of people in the city are food insecure versus 12 percent of the Virginia state average, so that was a really important topic for our members this year."

In all, Cville Gives raised over $23,000.
