RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation is looking to recognize individuals and organizations that are trying to change the behaviors of drivers to prevent crashes, injuries and fatalities on the roads.

Such individuals and organizations can be nominated for the 2019 Virginia Governor's Transportation Safety Awards.

Nominations are being accepted through March 15 in 13 transportation safety categories: Lifetime Safety Achievement, Commercial and Fleet Transportation Safety, Communications and Messaging, Community Impact, Emergency Medical Services, Impaired Driving, Infrastructure Improvements, Innovation in Highway Safety, Law Enforcement, Motorcycle Safety, Occupant Protection, Pedestrian/Bicycle Safety, and Youth.

The DMV says entries will be judged on creativity, imagination, uniqueness, the impact on the community, and the use of volunteers and private sector resources.
