Democrat Sena Magill launches city council campaign

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Another Democrat is officially launching her campaign to run for the Charlottesville City Council.

Sena Magill hosted a launch event at City Space on Wednesday morning.

Magill is from Charlottesville and spent years working for PACEM and Region Ten.

"I grew up here and I want this to be a good place for my daughter to live," Magill said.

Her husband, Tyler Magill, suffered a stroke in the days after being injured while confronting white nationalists at last August's torch-lit march at the University of Virginia.

Magill said she wants Charlottesville to be a diverse and healthy community.

"There is a lot of anger right now and I think I can bring what I have learned over the years to the table," Magill said.

She also said she hopes to bring better public housing and fight climate change within the city if she wins.

Democrat Don Gathers was expected to kick off his campaign Tuesday night, but he said he is delaying it because of health concerns.

Michael Payne is also running as a Democrat.
