CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Planning Commission will soon get a look at a proposal to revamp the old Kmart shopping center.
Riverbend Development wants to create Hillsdale Place with lots of shops and parking.
At this time, no specific stores have been mentioned, but there are rumors the red "anchor" store at the one end could be a Target.
The developers have not responded to a request for comment regarding the project.
The planning commission will hear about the project on May 14.
The Kmart closed in July 2017 after more than 50 years in business and the shopping center has been sitting empty ever since the Gold's Gym also shut down in September of that year.
