DoubleTree Hotel set to open new restaurant

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The DoubleTree Hotel on Route 29 will soon be opening up a new restaurant inside of the hotel.

Root 29 Craft Kitchen & Bar is a American cuisine restaurant that will serve comfort food.

The restaurant has been in the works for almost two years and Don Davis, the DoubleTree general manager, said he is excited to open the restaurant in the near future.

"We prepare it with care and serve it with pride," said Davis. "We've got sliders, we've got deviled eggs, we've got tri-tips and we've got lobster rolls. We have great desserts. It's everything for everybody."

He emphasized that it will be a Charlottesville-friendly restaurant and he wants to leave a strong impression on those who come to Root 29.

"I know Charlottesville and you got one or two opportunities but once when we get those opportunities, I know I'm going to get five to ten more and that's what we're working on right now," said Davis.

Despite being located inside of a hotel, he wants to focus on making the restaurant a place where locals come to have a casual dining experience instead of a restaurant for tourists who stay at the hotel.

"Just give us the opportunity to show that we are not just a hotel restaurant," said Davis. "We are actually a good standing restaurant, that's giving comfort food and American cuisine, Root 29 Craft Kitchen and Bar."

Root 29 does not have a set date for when it open, but it's anticipated opening is before the end of the month or at the beginning of June.
