ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- All lanes of the Route 250 Bypass have reopened near Old Ivy Road after concrete pieces fell from the bridge into the travel lanes.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the bridge has been inspected.

Drivers were being detoured onto the ramps until the inspection was complete.

According to VDOT, the concrete pieces that fell were not structural components and no danger to motorists was identified.

The inspection team removed any other loose concrete as it worked.

Major congestion was expected in the area until the inspection and cleanup were finished.

Drivers were urged to find alternate routes around the closure.
