Fathers invited to celebrate and raise money for local program

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Local fathers are invited to celebrate their day on Saturday at Random Row Brewing.

Fathers Eve is a chance for fathers to get together, laugh and share stories the night before Father's Day.

“The greatest part of the event is connecting guys that didn't know each other before, but left the event as friends,” said Father's Eve founder John Francis.

The event is also a fundraiser that aims to do good for the local community.

Fathers Eve has raised more than $35,000 in the last four years, and this year's event will support the ReadyKids REAL Dads program.

This program coaches incarcerated or estranged fathers to have Responsible, Empowered, Available and Loving, or REAL, relationships with their children.

The event will include beer, outdoor games, a cigar tent, and a nail driving competition called Hammerschlagen, culminating in a toast to dads.

There are Fathers Eve events planned in 55 cities and three counties.
