Finding new ways to keep public schools safe

By  |

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Keeping our schools safer is the new assignment for local Delegate David Toscano.

He has been appointed by the Speaker of the House of Delegates to a new select committee on school safety.

Toscano met with staff at Baker-Butler Elementary School to talk about better securing local schools.

He says there were two major points of discussion for both high schools and elementary schools.

"The select committee will look at best practices already in place for school divisons, both in terms of the physical elements of safety as well as mental health," Toscano said.

He says there is no word yet on when the select committee will finish its research and recommend changes needed to better secure local schools.
