Fluvanna, Louisa opens cooling centers due to heat

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Fluvanna County has now opened two cooling centers due to the extreme hot weather affecting the area.

The Fluvanna County Library will be open until 8:30 p.m. Friday and against on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Pleasant Grove House will be open as a cooling center on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

County officials say they will continue to monitor the weather and address a potential need for additional cooling centers if the need arises.

The library is on Commons Boulevard while Pleasant Grove House is on Pleasant Grove Road, both in Palmyra.

Louisa County also opened cooling centers on Thursday.

According to a post on the Louisa County Parks and Recreation Facebook page, the Betty Queen Intergenerational Center and the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library branch in Mineral are serving as cooling centers.

The Betty Queen Intergenerational Center in Louisa is open until 9 p.m. Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The JMRL branch in Mineral will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Louisa County has also reduced the admission cost for the Louisa County Aquatic Facility to $1 per person. Children under the age of two get in for free.

The aquatic facility is open until 7 p.m. Friday and from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Officials say service animals will be allowed on most premises, but pets are prohibited.
