Former Charlottesville Clerk of Council indicted

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A former Clerk of Council for the Charlottesville City Council has been indicted for embezzlement.

According to the Charlottesville Police Department, a grand jury indicted 37-year-old Carolyn Paige Rice of Albemarle County on June 7.

The indictment claims Rice embezzled an Apple Watch and an Apple iPhone X, which she had received and entrusted to her by virtue of her employment with the city.

The devices, valued at more than $500, belong to the city and were not returned when she ended her employment on Oct. 5, 2018.

There is a hearing scheduled for this case on Aug. 19.
