Richard Fox announces candidacy for 25th District seat

CROZET, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Richard Fox officially announced his candidacy for 25th district of the House of Delegates at Pro Re Nata brewery on Saturday.

Fox will be running as a Republican.

He is a fifth-generation farmer from Albemarle County and owns Roslyn Farm with his fiancee.

He will be running for the seat currently occupied by Delegate Steve Landes, who will retire after this term.

Education and keeping tolls off of Interstate 81 are some of the issues on which he says he will focus.

He made the decision to run for office on Tuesday after hearing about Landes' retirement.

"When he announced that he would be retiring, it was a long conversation I had with my fiancee and with a lot of our friends," Fox said. "We only had about 24 hours to make the decision and the filing deadline was very close. So I decided why not, I think I have a lot to bring and offer to this race. And I went ahead and threw my hat in the ring."

Fox will compete against Chris Runion and Marshall Pattie in the Firehouse Primaries on April 27.

Landes has yet to endorse a candidate.
